“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:6
“For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return there without saturating the earth and making it germinate and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.” Isaiah 55:10-11
Have you ever been aware of those times when God may have been using you in another person’s life? God often uses us to plant the seeds of his truth into others; then he takes it from there. Paul explained this concept to the Corinthians.
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:6
This verse that Paul wrote cells are several things:
- Some of us have a job of planting, or that is to say, the job of getting things started in a person’s life
- As for the rest of us, God wants us to water, that is to say, He wants us to help His truth to grow more in that person’s life
- Nevertheless, it is God, not you or me but God is responsible for the spiritual growth of those people
This is wonderful because it frees us up; we cannot be responsible for the spiritual condition of someone else. We can only be responsible for our own spiritual condition. However, it is never in vain, we can have faith in God to work in the lives of those he has sent us to plant and water. God’s Word will always have an effect on others.
I don’t know about you but I’m certainly happy to know that He is using me whenever I share His Word. As a matter of fact He is growing our spiritual lives right now.
